Robert Moore

Robert Moore has been a journalist for 40 years, most of it in El Paso. He currently is president and CEO of El Paso Matters, a nonprofit news organization he founded that began publishing in February 2020. He spent most of his career in editing roles at the El Paso Times, including serving as editor from 2011-2017.
Moore has written about border issues for the Washington Post, ProPublica, Texas Monthly and other media outlets.
His national journalism awards include the Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award from the National Press Foundation in 2013; the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award in 2020 for reporting on human rights issues; a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2020 as part of a Washington Post team reporting on mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio; and the Sunshine Award from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2022 for work promoting government transparency. He is a member of the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame and the Texas Institute of Letters.
Moore graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso and was named a Gold Nugget, one of the university’s highest honors, in 2022. He is married to Kate Gannon, an associate professor of practice in UTEP’s Communications Department.
