Now that the first wave of excitement over generative AI has swept around the world, people are noticing a pattern: bias. How can newsrooms take advantage of emerging technologies and avoid reproducing inequality? One of the foremost experts in advancing more equitable AI tools, Meredith Broussard, will join us in a fireside chat to discuss cases where these inequities are apparent, how newsrooms can raise public awareness of these issues, and how we as journalists might mitigate against these flaws as we incorporate these tools in our own work. Broussard's most recent book, More Than a Glitch: Confronting Race, Gender, and Ability Bias in Tech, tackles these issues head on and suggests we focus on the initial design of technological tools to create more equitable outcomes.
