After earning her B.A. and J.D. from Indiana University, Ali practiced at a small personal injury law firm in South Carolina. In 2016 she moved to Washington, DC and began working as a contract attorney in document review. Ali provided information to the New York Times for a series of stories that exposed misconduct and a toxic work culture at CBS. In May 2023, three years after losing her law license as a consequence of giving information to the Times, she came forward as the source in an episode of "The Daily." Ali lives in the DC metro area with her husband, Lee.
