Manami Kano is a consultant to foundations and nonprofits on media, journalism and narrative programs, organizational development, stakeholder collaboration and DEI integration into organizational goals. Working with both media organizations and philanthropy, she has advised on strategies to focus on sustainable racial equity, including the design and launch of the Racial Equity in Journalism Fund at Borealis Philanthropy which has grown to over $20M in commitments, providing general operating and capacity support to nearly 50 BIPOC media organizations in local communities across the U.S. Prior, Manami was the deputy director, Global Media Partnerships at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, funding news and information projects domestically and internationally.
