Patrick Boehler leads digital transformation and cultivates teams of product thinkers within international, culturally diverse newsrooms.
Currently, Patrick serves as the Acting Head of Innovation and Audience Engagement at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), a surrogate public media organization that operates in 21 countries in Asia and Europe where press freedom is restricted. In this capacity, he oversees product, audience, journalism training, marketing, and is building an Innovation Lab.
Patrick has been a reporter and editor at various media outlets, including at The New York Times, The South China Morning Post and other media in Asia and Europe. He co-founded the Environmental Reporting Collective, an initiative designed to foster global collaboration among journalists. He taught reporting on China at the Journalism and Media Studies Center at the University of Hong Kong, and was a Sulzberger Fellow at Columbia University in 2023 (Apply to join the next cohort!).
