Swatha Nandhakumar is the Advocacy and Outreach Specialist at the American Council of the Blind, a position she has held since March 2021. ACB is the nation’s leading member-driven organization of and for individuals who are blind or low vision with a mission to increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and to improve the quality of life for all individuals who are blind or experiencing vision loss. In her role, Swatha works on federal public policy and governmental affairs on issues including but not limited to access to transportation, voting, health care, and the digital built environment for individuals with disabilities, including blindness and low vision. She currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities Transportation Task Force, and represents ACB on several other advocacy and policy coalitions and with industry partners of the organization. Additionally, she engages directly with ACB’s nationwide membership to advocate and communicate on their, and the organization’s, priorities with Congress and the administration. Prior to ACB, Swatha graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago in 2020 and currently lives in the Washington, DC area.
