The State of Digital Product Management in Education

Professional trends in digital product management highlight the need for profound changes to the ways we structure and deliver media education.

The State of the News Product Community 2020 report highlighted trends associated with the emerging role of digital product management in media, including challenges associated with demographics of the field, career support and functioning as a bridge role in organizations. Most journalism and media academic programs have not meaningfully incorporated product concepts into curriculum to connect with these trends. This session will discuss the themes and competencies relevant to updating media curriculum in support of the sustainability of the industry, strategies for accomplishing curriculum redesign and faculty development necessary to support such change. Additional research updating the 2020 study will be released in this session.
