Your health and safety at ONA23: Philadelphia

We have gathered important reminders and resources to help you handle any health and safety issues while you’re in Philadelphia for ONA’s annual conference.

Code of conduct

We’re committed to providing a positive environment that is welcoming to all people throughout our gathering in Philadelphia. Review the Code of Conduct before you arrive at the conference. The code clearly states our expectations for all staff, supporters, volunteers, speakers and attendees.

Your badge

Wear your badge and keep it visible at all times throughout the conference. Your badge not only provides access to the conference programming but also contributes to the safety of fellow attendees. Upon arrival, head to the Registration Desk in the 5th floor foyer to collect your badge.

Registration Desk hours:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 22: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 23: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 24: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 25: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 26: 9:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Public health

If you feel sick, take care and stay home or in your hotel room.

ONA23 is a mask-friendly environment. We encourage attendees to wear well-fitting masks in indoor public settings. Be respectful of other attendees’ choices; negative comments about mask-wearing will be considered a violation of our Code of Conduct.

We also strongly encourage staying up-to-date on vaccinations and self-testing for COVID-19 within 48 hours of your arrival at ONA23. Learn more about our public health protocols.

Reporting a problem

Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert ONA staff if you notice what you assess to be a dangerous situation, someone in distress or violations of the Code of Conduct. To report a problem, email safety@journalists.org. For transparency, this email forwards to Chief Knowledge Officer Trevor Knoblich and Director of Programs Meghan Murphy.

Conference help

  • Find someone wearing a tomato-colored VOLUNTEER shirt. They can help with finding a specific room, getting first aid and other questions about the ONA23 experience.
  • Visit the main Help Desk on the 5th floor or Help Stations on the 3rd or 4th floors.

For your privacy

Information gathered from attendees during registration helps us see trends and patterns, as well as plan programming, networking activities and events. We will use Name, Job title, Organization, Twitter handle and location by city, state and country (excluding addresses) to create an attendee list that is shared with registered attendees only.ONA does not sell attendee information and we work to keep your contact information secure. Learn more about our privacy policy.

Attendee List Scam Notice: We’ve been notified that some attendees have received emails from companies claiming to have access to ONA conference attendee lists. We do not sell or rent our attendee list, and we do not have a relationship with any of these companies.
