Look to Philadelphia for lessons in better election coverage

With many critical elections worldwide slated for 2024, from the local level to the national stage, we’re pleased to present the featured ONA23 session Every Voice, Every Vote: Lessons On Collaborative Elections Coverage From Philadelphia. Join us Thursday, Aug. 24, at 11:30 a.m. in Philadelphia for this fascinating conversation that will include individuals from organizations throughout our conference’s host city.

The Every Voice, Every Vote project is a coalition of community groups and media organizations combining to elevate the city’s diverse voices, educate voters and encourage civic action around the ongoing mayoral election process. Moderator Shawn Mooring, Head of Philadelphia Programs at The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, will lead a deep dive discussion into this effort to improve election coverage.

Speakers Ariella Cohen, Assistant Managing Editor, News, The Philadelphia Inquirer; Ashanti Martin, General Manager, WURD Radio; Will Gonzalez, Executive Director, Ceiba and Hyeonock “Mel” Lee, Executive Director, Woori Center will gather to discuss their roles in this collaboration.

We’re hosting this year’s conference in two parts. ONA23: Philadelphia, Aug. 23–26, is focused on delivering exciting in-person learning and connecting opportunities, including the 2023 Online Journalism Awards Ceremony and Banquet. Virtually, we’re also presenting ONA23: Onward, Sept. 28-29, an online experience intended to feature timely discussions and lean-back listening opportunities. Registration for Philadelphia includes access to Onward.
