ONA23: Philadelphia is Aug. 23-26 and ONA23: Onward is Sept. 28-29 online. This global journalism festival offers interactive panels, workshops and networking events with some of the most innovative minds in digital news media, including audience and analytics professionals, news product, strategy and business executives and entrepreneurs.

Unless otherwise noted, benefits for all packages include:

Notes: 

  • ONA will ask for permission to share attendee information for all RSVP-only events. ONA cannot target individual attendees as part of attendee outreach related to any sponsor packages, including receptions. 
  • Limited storage onsite is available at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, first come, first served.
  • Midway/Exhibit-only passes – designed for staff – are available for $150/each and include access to non-programmatic areas of ONA23 (exhibit and lounge spaces, including Franklin Hall) and the ONA23 Welcome Reception on Thursday, Aug. 24. These passes do not include access to any education sessions, meals or other official networking events (unless part of sponsorship). Limit 2 per sponsor group.  

SPONSORED SESSIONS/EVENTS: Speakers for any event at ONA23, whether in person or virtual-only, including sponsored sessions and meal events, must be registered with full passes for ONA23.

All conference sessions must uphold and further the educational, professional development, and diversity goals of ONA23, regardless of whether they are selected via the Suggestion Box or through Midway Programming, or organized by ONA or sponsors. 

Package Details

Presenting Sponsors of ONA23 will be highlighted for their support in multiple ways:

  • Presenting Sponsors will co-host the ONA23 Welcome Event on Thursday, Aug. 24 for all 2,000 (projected) attendees. This premium sponsorship includes all branding and promotion related to the event, as well as the opportunity to address attendees both live attending the Welcome Event at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. Heavy appetizers and beverages are included for the in-person reception, as well as space for on-site branding, activations and brief remarks. Additional hand-outs/give-aways are at the discretion of the sponsor.
  • Presenting Sponsors will have the option to conduct up to two 60-min. standard  sponsored sessions on Thursday and Friday of the conference. These premium sessions would be held live at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and streamed for live virtual viewing. ONA will actively work with Sponsor to ensure a quality experience for Sponsor, speakers and attendees. Each session will be promoted as an official event across ONA’s channels with Sponsor branding. The recording file of the session will be provided to the Sponsor following ONA23 to share publicly, including on their own platform, and also added to the ONA Resource Library after the event.
  • Presenting sponsors also have the option to conduct one live 60-minute session with attendee chat during ONA23 Digital, Sept. 28-29. 

Additional benefits for this package also include:

  • Private lounge space in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown OR a lounge space in the Grand Ballroom foyer, adjacent to registration and programming rooms on the fifth floor. Platinum Level  

Put your organization front and center during the networking event and ceremony highlighting digital journalism’s preeminent awards — the Online Journalism Awards. Sponsor has the opportunity for brief remarks (in-person or virtually) during the live ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 26. Event branding — both in person and virtually as part of the event stream — is included. Food and beverage for in-person ticketed attendees is also included as part of the in-person event.

Treat attendees to some nosh and networking between session blocks on either Thursday, Aug. 24 or Friday, Aug. 25. Snack stations will be set-up in the networking area of Franklin Hall. Branded signage will direct attendees, and push notifications promoting the snack break and you as the Sponsor will go to all attendees via the ONA23 app. Snack break foods are included for that 30-min. break. Coffee and tea are not included or available for this package.

Maximum exposure every time 2,000 (projected) conference attendees access the ONA23 private wireless network at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. Support this key program, which selects top students to attend ONA23 to produce content for the conference website under the personal guidance of 10 professional mentors from across the country. 

Includes branding as part of the official announcement, news, selection process, all-digital presence and on-site newsroom branding. Opportunity to directly connect with the selected participants is also included. Sponsor will also be branded as Patron or Supporter on the Student Newsroom website.

A destination with guaranteed foot traffic and appreciation! Make your 10×20 premium lounge space in Franklin Hall the most popular spot at ONA23 by providing coffee service during breaks Thursday and Friday. 

Sponsor is responsible for all costs related to hotel coffee service, which is $110 per gallon plus hotel fees of 35%, for a recommended two (2) breaks per day of coffee and tea, paid directly to the hotel. A minimum of one coffee/tea service (estimated to be 50 gallons) per day is required as part of this sponsorship.

Gold Level

ONA conference attendees view sponsored programming equally alongside all other high-caliber programming at the annual meeting. These sessions must be designed to be educational — not advertorial — and sponsors are obligated to craft descriptions for the official ONA23 agenda that accurately reflect the intent and outcome for each session.   

Wednesday, Aug. 23: RSVP-Only Sessions (SOLD OUT) or Skills Training Workshops (SOLD OUT)  

ONA recognizes that for many sponsors our annual conference is an opportunity to gather their existing clients or audience for training or information-sharing. For groups seeking to host a sponsored session or workshop for this purpose, the first day of ONA23 (Wednesday, Aug. 23) will be structured to host RSVP-only sessions catering to specific audiences. Space for around 100 guests and A/V is included. Sponsors have the option to select from 60-minute sessions or 120-minute workshops. 

Additional benefits include: 2 full conference passes for RSVP-only sessions; 3 for Skills Workshops

Note: The 60-minute session will not be recorded. The 2-hour workshop will be recorded and streamed for live virtual viewing; the recording file of the session will be provided to the Sponsor following ONA23 to share publicly, including on their own platform, and also added to the ONA Resource Library following the conference.  

The deadline to confirm a Wednesday sponsored session is May 15, 2023.  

Virtual-only session, ONA23: Onward: $5,000 (1 available)

Sponsor will conduct a live, virtual 60-minute sponsored session on Sept. 28 or 29, designed to introduce new skills, tools and concepts to the ONA23: Onward online audience with full chat. This can be a reprisal of a session from ONA23 in person or a completely new session. Session will be produced and streamed for live virtual viewing through the ONA23 event platform; the recording file of the session will be provided to the Sponsor following ONA23: Onward to share publicly, including on their own platform, and also added to the ONA Resource Library following the conference. Note: This package is virtual-only. 

Additional benefits include: 5 Onward passes; all other ONA23 benefits (if a new sponsor)

Standard Sponsored Sessions (1 available, Thursday, Aug. 24, $15,000)

Sponsor will conduct a 60-minute in-person sponsored session designed to introduce new skills, tools and concepts to the onsite ONA23 audience. All standard sponsored sessions will be recorded and streamed for live virtual viewing; the recording file of the session will be provided to the Sponsor following ONA23 to share publicly, including on their own platform, and also added to the ONA Resource Library following the conference.

Host this targeted networking reception for up to 150 senior-level women in media, including the 2023 Women’s Leadership Accelerator cohort, mentors, speakers and ONA23 attendees who also took part in other women in leadership programs. Benefits include year-round inclusion on all WLA program promotion, dedicated branding and opportunity to include info/swag for reception participants at ONA23, as well as opportunities to directly connect with the 2023 cohort in Philadelphia. Silver Level

ONA, with support from our partners, is offering scholarships to ONA23. Scholarships awarded will be a mix of in-person and virtual opportunities, depending on applicant request.

Sponsor branding would be included on the primary scholarship information page and the specific pages for the scholarship(s) the sponsor is directly supporting, in addition to scholarship promotion. Access to reach out to applicants is included in this package. Partners can also select to sponsor more scholarships and/or combine scholarship support with another package, with benefits adjusted accordingly. 

Host a group of 35 attendees during an hour-long, RSVP-required private networking event on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of the conference. ONA will host the private virtual event, and deliver GrubHub vouchers for attendees to order food in advance of the event. (Sponsor has the option to invite non-ONA23 attendees; ONA can provide details.) Sponsor is responsible for programming. Sponsor will be listed on the official schedule and also receive branding on digital invitation for the event and all promotion of the event. A dedicated time and space to connect with ONA23 attendees and get valuable feedback about the products or services you are developing. Host up to 25 for a focus group in a private room at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown OR in the virtual ONA23 platform for up to one hour on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of the conference. Sponsor is responsible for programming and stand-alone invitations. Sponsor receives branding on digital invitation to RSVP to attend the event. Sponsor must agree to clearly describe and host the event as a focus group but is responsible for programming and any stand-alone invitations. Additional signage, give-aways or F&B are at the discretion of the Sponsor. Notes: ONA cannot share attendee email addresses as part of attendee outreach. Focus Groups will not be listed on the official ONA23 schedule.

Exhibit-only Space

ONA23 will offer a 10×20 lounge space for face-to-face conversations with media leaders, Wednesday, Aug. 23 – Friday, Aug. 25, in Philadelphia. Located in the Grand Ballroom Level, outside of the main ballrooms and registration at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on the 5th floor. 

This space will be unfurnished. Sponsor is responsible for any costs related to any branded materials, give-aways and food and beverage, specialty furniture and/or A/V; ONA will provide a list of options (hotel is responsible for all F&B). Basic electric access is included with this space. Note: There is no additional exhibit space in Franklin Hall included in this sponsorship. 

Lounge space will be searchable on an interactive map available in the ONA23 app. Additional signage, within space restrictions, or give-aways are at the discretion of the Sponsor.  

Additional benefits include: 4 full conference passes.

ONA23 will offer both 10’x10’ exhibits and stand-alone table-top spaces for face-to-face conversations with media leaders on Thursday and Friday of ONA23 in Philadelphia – the peak traffic days of the in-person event. Located in Franklin Hall in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on the 4th floor, close to multiple main programming rooms. Additional details:

  • Includes one 6’x2’ table, two chairs, wastebasket, ID sign and shared use of a 10 amp electric drop and power strip.
  • Pipe and drape included  

Table-Top Space

  • Includes one 6’x2’ table, two chairs, wastebasket and shared use of a 10 amp electric drop and power strip. No stand-alone backdrops or banners exceeding 5 feet in width, no pipe-and-drape.

Both include:

  • Two full conference passes.
  • All booth spaces will be searchable on an interactive map available in the ONA23 app. Additional signage, within space restrictions, or give-aways are at the discretion of the Sponsor. 
  • Sponsor is responsible for any A/V and/or food or beverages in their space, as approved by the hotel. All food and beverage must first be discussed with ONA. 

ONA defines start-ups as ventures that have not been operating for more than 24 months and offers those groups a deeply discounted rate to support participation at our annual conference. Start-ups are allowed to participate in the ONA Start-Up Alley a maximum of two times.

The Start-Up Alley receives significant promotion before and during the annual conference. In the lead-up to ONA23, the Start-Up Alley will be featured in a dedicated blog post on the conference site, which will be promoted in the conference newsletter and on official ONA23 social media. Onsite at ONA23: Philadelphia, there will be physical signage highlighting the Start-Up Alley, as well as a tabletop area in the Midway for the groups to use as a shared networking space starting the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 23 through Aug. 25. (This tabletop area will be labeled on the interactive map in the ONA23 app.) Additionally, there will be a dedicated session block on the official ONA23 agenda promoting the Start-Up Alley, encouraging attendees to visit that tabletop area to learn about each of the groups.

A brief application was required to submit by Friday, May 12, and all applicants have been notified. All applicants must also participate in a phone call or video chat about their start-up, scheduled through Calendly.

If selected for the Start-Up Alley, the sponsorship cost is $450. The package includes:

  • One full ONA23 conference pass
  • Shared tabletop space in ONA23 Midway, Aug. 23-25, located in Franklin Hall on the 4th floor of the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown
  • Shared promotion in ONA23 blog post highlighting Start-Up Alley, linking to a dedicated information page for each group. The blog post will be promoted in the ONA23 newsletter and on ONA23 social media accounts
